Who has priority when two people paddle for the same wave?
The surfer closest to the breaking part of the wave, on the inside, has priority. Do not drop in.
The person nearest the peak, closest to where the wave is starting to break, has right of way. Everyone else must pull back. Paddling around them to steal position is called snaking and is the fastest way to get glared at forever. If you accidentally drop in, apologize with a wave or a word. Owning the mistake is the whole culture.
