How do I read a surf forecast?
Look at wave height, period, wind direction, and tide. Period matters more than beginners think.
Wave height is the face size of the wave, not always the reading you see. Period is seconds between waves. Under 8 seconds is weak wind-swell. 10 to 14 seconds is fun. 15 plus is powerful groundswell. Wind should ideally blow offshore, from land to sea. Tide changes each spot's break, ask locals or check the spot notes on Sploot.
