What is surfboard volume and why does it matter?

Volume in litres tells you how much the board floats. More volume, easier to paddle and catch waves.

Volume is the total float of a board, measured in litres. A rough beginner target is bodyweight in kilograms times a skill factor between 0.6 and 1.0. Beginners want 0.9 to 1.0 or higher, intermediates around 0.4 to 0.55, advanced surfers around 0.32 to 0.4. Sploot's Board Matcher does this math for you and gives a friendly volume number.
