Boards and gear

What's the difference between a longboard and a shortboard?

Longboards are 9 feet plus, glide-heavy and forgiving. Shortboards are under 7, quick and unforgiving.

Longboards are stable, catch waves early, and reward smooth style. Shortboards are for tight turns, quick drops, and bigger, faster waves. Between them sit funboards, mid-lengths, fish, and hybrids. Most surfers ride longer boards longer than they think they should. There's no shame in gliding.
